Here’s an interesting e-mail I received in my university inbox this morning:

“Devenez animateur à CHYZ 94,3 FM! CHYZ est à la recherche de projets d’émissions originaux pour la saison estivale. Vous pouvez proposer des projets musicaux ou verbaux. Consultez la programmation de CHYZ disponible sur notre site Internet et démarquez-vous !”

Hopefully you will be hearing Tom and I via the radio waves hovering above beautiful Québec City this summer! We’re planning on hosting an hour of indie/alternative music on our university radio station, CHYZ 94.3 FM. More news to come!

Google has recently launched it’s calendar service, and let me tell you, it rocks! I’ve been looking for software that could easily allow me to keep track of schoolwork and appointments on-the-go; I could not have asked for anything better than this! Give Google Calendar a spin: it works like a charm, it’s easy to use, it’s integrated right into Google’s search engine and GMail and best of all, it’s free. Check it out here.

Gamespot posted a story revealing that Ubisoft has decided to drop Starforce protection alongside other companies such as Stardock. Smart move guys, everyone hates Starforce so much. Just keep those torrent kids buying games somehow!

“Following several days of rumors, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that it will no longer use the controversial digital-rights software from Starforce. “Ubisoft has decided to use an alternative copy-protection system to Starforce for upcoming releases,” said a rep for the company. The announcement means that Starforce software will not be included in Heroes of Might and Magic V, the publisher’s much-anticipated forthcoming PC role-playing game.”

Green Taxi Endeavor

Troubled by the current reality of smog-screened skylines and the constantly growing levels of greenhouse gas emissions, my brother Mark has written an excellent editorial focusing on the improvement of our environment. He proposes a solution that would definately aid in the fight to save our atmosphere: The Green Taxi Endeavor.

“Under an island sky, we as Montréalais live together, often looking for a star that is barely visible to the naked eye. By night, industry and emissions hijack our constellations leaving only the light of the moon to guide our path. Common culprits seize our days with smoke and fog, scrambling our horizon in the most unnatural of ways.”

“In order to reclaim our skyline and reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly, smarter vehicles must be purchased and used to transport passengers and freight. To be more precise, the next generation of taxi cabs for the greater Montreal region should be gas/electric hybrid cars. Think about it.”

You rock bro!

Visiting Ubisoft Quebec

I spent an incredible afternoon inside the Québec City headquarters of Ubisoft, game development giant that is renowned for their titles of excellent quality. I was breathless upon entering; the studio (the one I visited) is beautiful, wide open, uber modern and the walls mainly consist of huge windows! The work environment is one that many could only dream of having. I talked to several employees and they were all so cool. Everyone was hard at work, clearly enthralled by what they were undertaking. Now that I’ve seen what I’m missing out on, I’m (n+1)-times more motivated to do everything that I must in order to obtain an internship at the Québec headquarters of Ubisoft. Below is some more information about the local division for those that don’t know the company (french):

“Le studio de Québec a ouvert ses portes le 1 er juin 2005. L’ouverture de ce nouveau studio de développement de jeu vidéo s’inscrit dans le cadre de la stratégie de croissance d’Ubisoft au Québec. Ce studio qui travaillera sur des projets d’envergure, accueillera dès 2005 plus de 75 concepteurs. Nous prévoyons ainsi de créer 200 nouveaux emplois dans la région d’ici cinq ans.”

Time to go all out! I want this so bad…
